This private city residence is a sculptural gesture of contemporary architecture and interior design exploring layered open spaces filtered with natural light.
Hidden behind an unassuming facade is a deceptively large private home that maximises the footprint of an irregular block of land. Overcoming challenging height restrictions, the carefully considered design results in an abundance of space, light and volume.
A limited pallet of materials seamlessly lines the interior and exterior surfaces to diffuse thresholds and bring the outside in. The contemporary floor plan is orientated in all directions towards garden foliage, and pivots around a central light court and sunken reflection pond, where the sound of water layers the interior experience.
The understated simplicity of the living spaces is complemented with furniture in natural fabrics including linens and aniline leathers, Australian paintings and hand-loomed rugs.
This is the second of two projects undertaken with this client.
